| Hi Guys,
I think i had made a thread on this ( then again maybe not )
I received a toy a while ago and when i opened it it reaked of cigarette smell. I washed the toys and left them out to vent but they still carry a scent. I have asthma and cigarette stuff really bothers me and i don't want to contaminate my other toys with that stink.
Is there anyway i can salvage the toy short of throwing it in the garbage can?
any tricks ? |

| Bud I've to do it. Not cigar but cigarettes. My inheited collection, well what's left and not added to by me, had heavy cigareete smoke from my brother. Now keep in mind that I had these bad boys in storage too for 4 years and the smell was still strong!!! I tried baking soda, the dryer sheets and time. I'd set them outside in the breeze as well for hours in shade away from the dreaded UV of the Sun. It worked for the figures. As for the figures with capes, Bib fortuna-4-LOM-Leia-Han-ERG's and so on it actually took a little more actually maybe the methods I described would have probably worked but I was impatient. Anyway I used cold cold water a very mild soap with a soft bristls tooth brush and you could see the brown of the nicotine rinse away and obviously the smell with it. So then again it was the best method (for me that is) to get the nicotine out. I buried the figures in baking soda ina closed container and every day would open the top, shake the baking soda and blow, lol, ya blow in the container to get the air mixed up too (don't know if that helped) but the dirty air was best to get out. Hope this helps, it helped me and I'd do it again because I know it's proven, I just did it 2 months ago. P.S. The dryer sheets freaked me out at first because I was afraid the smell would be permanent, but it wasn't, then again as I said it freaked me out so I leaned more towards the baking soda and air time The Mrs. also told me at that time cold air is best for getting smells out??? Seemed weird to me because I would think that cold air would trap smells. I never did Google it so I don't know about that one. |

| It just amazes me that some people on ebay do sell stuff without even telling you about this or not even caring...
Like i said in another thread i have tried oxyclean to clean some clothes on the 12 inch figure i had received with good results. Maybe this stuff would break out the smell on clothed figures. Not sure. Anyways the stink is on a figure i got. The figure has no clothes so i can try the dryer sheets or baking soda thing i guess.
thanks for the tips folks.
Cheers! |

| I have heard burying them in baking soda works great so I would try that method first. I think I read it on another forum that someone did that and it worked really well. I dont know about cloth figures but I dont think baking soda would do any harm to the material, I know some detergents have baking soda in them, so surely it wouldnt damage the cloth. Best part about that method is baking soda can be rinsed away fairly easily with no need to scrub really. |

Bud I believe the best answer to this is until it works. Not being a smart ass but you are going to have to bury it for days on end. Baking soda absorbs odors as I'm sure you know so let it work it's magic. I would rotate baking soda and airing out. It will not work in 1day or 2 for that matter. It will work, but patience is key my baking soda padawan [justify] Remember a CLOSED container and rotate fresh baking soda as you decide to. This ensures the full potential of fresh baking soda doing it's job. What figure is it by the way? |

The cold makes The smell go away,it works for sweaty trainers too Bud, yeah-sus is most likely right on with the freezer idea That goes along with what I stated earlier about the Mrs. telling me about cold air helping to eliminate odors. You cannot go wrong with using both ...that'll be 10000 for the advice or 2000 now and 15 when it works and then yeah-sus and I will split it |

| Oh wow, ya that should be a cinch. Heck you can wash him over and over and no harm will be done. Keeping in mind that another reason for the stank is the nicotine which has settled on him as well. Ridding him of that nicotine should help with color improving too...depending on the amount of nicotine he has on him Dawn dish soap is great at cutting grease, that is for sure if you've ever did greasy dishes in the sink. I've used it on figures because it's something that is sitting right at my sink so I have not had to go out and buy some other product. Would it be the best product on the market to rid something of nicotine?...No of course not but as I stated if it's around and not damaging to the figures...use it and that TAR from the cigar smoke has settled on your Wampa as well and Dawn would help break that TAR down. Not that I have any idea of the chemical composition of tobacco Tar |
