Same Here, i am sure this is lots of fun, but i dont play along out off principle. To me this is just a clever way to get the amount you want for something, when you cant get it sold for that money. Some might not share my opinion, but that is the reason i dont play along |

Some might not share my opinion, but that is the reason i dont play along That could be solved by having someone value the items, either way someone may get an uzay bluestars for $40 thats pretty cool !! |

That's what I do, but Dennis is 100% entitled to his opinion and some have tried over valuing in the past. It's part of the reason I only run them. FWIW - I've always established a value. If we come up short on people, I've sometimes run them anyway and took a little loss. Others, like last month, we went bananas and I had $380 donated to charity!! I'll promise that I'll never make a penny over value on these. I'd love to go over to donate to charity but since some choices are high value it might be tough just getting there. Blue Stars just sold on Ebay for $1025, not graded. I'm looking to run a raffle for a graded one. So $1125 let's say plus I always have a second prize. I'm collecting $1200 and I have to ship two items. I basically get market value. Hope that explains it. Before i run the raffle I'll also lay out the value ahead of time. If anyone takes issue I welcome them to call me out on it. I'm not trying to oversell (even if the winner gets a crazy deal) |

Why does it always end up that there's always one person who comes on and gives this view when there's a raffle? I for one could care less if someone running a raffle makes any extra cash from it. As long as everyione gets a fair shot who cares? |

| I'm trying to figure out what's so damn clever about being in agreement on fair market value, dividing the sum by a number of entries thus making the item obtainable for a few bucks?
I'd argue that clever is wagering $30 for a 1/40 shot at a Blue Stars and 3900% ROI. |

As long as everyione gets a fair shot who cares? Hey i did not want to kick the bucket either, but just my reason why i don't participate. Heck i even check out every time what been raffled off and who the winner, even i don't participate. So it's not like i could care less, and i am sure the raffles have improved. Now i like John, he is a great guy and does alot and has done alot for the hobby, so don't see this as an insult or anything, it is just my opinion. John, i am going to pm you as i don't wanna take this off track any further. |

John is an OUTSANDING person for anyone to question that... it's flat out wrong. He has donated extra money to charity. My goodness people (some people). Like i said in my previous message, i have pm'ed john about this and I don't want to take the fun away from the raffles, but since i have a feeling i am beeing questioned about my opinion, i just like to answer your questions here. First Kisstour: You could are less if someone makes extra cash on a raffle, as long as everyone has a fair shot at it. i like to answer this, and i try to choose my words wisely not to take a direct shot at someone, but almost not possible. But my point was about it's only one person who startted this raffles and made extra cash on it, then claimed it theirs, so no one else had the chance or fair shot to make the cash "what you call fair market value" on an item they try to sell but could not sell on a regular way. Like i said, i cannot remember exactly, but i remember how the first raffles startted was along these lines. Imagine i have an item for sale in the classifieds for "500", it does not sell, so i lower my price to "450", still does not sell so price lowered again to "400". Still no takers, so i decide to raffle the item off and the money it brings in is equal to "500" of higher. (above 500 goes to charity). Did i make the fair market value? If your triying to sell something, and can't get the money you want for it, then raffle it off and get the amount (or even more) then you had it for sale for, thats just clever way to do it and that's why i used that words. In my opinion, the seller of an item is the big winner here as he makes money he could not get by selling the item on a regular way and this how the raffles startted. At TishomingoSith: John is a great guy and i never questioned that. I respect John and consider him a pilar and a friend in the hobby, but this does not mean we always have the same opinion about anything. But I just told the truth, yes he donated the extra money to charity off the last raffle but like i said above, this is not how the raffles startted. Also i am happy John has claimed the raffles and supervises them so nobody else can raffle items off at overpriced values. (really am, i am not beeing sarcastic here)! |

| Holy Cow everyone.
First off, Dennis is allowed to have his opinion and I never thought for a second he was taking a shot at me. He is a great guy and just wants to voice his thinking process.
Now that said, I don't totally agree. In the most recent raffle my Leia Takara put $400 in pocket. I had asked $600' then dropped to $500. One just sold for $450 so I feel I was more than fair. I've done an Uzay Vader, bunch of MOCs and playsets, and every time it's been pretty fair. Idon't agree that if something isn't selling that it is only due to price.
Regardless, it's a voluntary thing. If you want in great and if not, that's fine too.
I'll just say to everyone that I have no problem with people voicing their thoughts. |

| Maybe next time you can't get what you want dollar wise for your pieces Dennis...let John raffle it for you Pretty sure someone wanted to do this on RS once with a LL Jawa MOC???..or something in that sort of price range. Only people who thought it was a shit idea was the mods...and that was only because of site policy. |

At this point it looks like Blue Stars is a pull away winner. I'll see if any other prize makes a run but looks like someone might have a grail soon! |
