I really love the premise of the show and i think it is nice to see all those older toys but i really think that the host is ripping people off due to their ignorance of the real value of their toys he is able to get out of their hands.

Case in point, i just saw a small clip online that he offered not even 200$ to a guy for a double telescoping Luke after explaining the early bird thing to him and telling him that the item is unique. I just cringed.

Plus he said he estimated the value of the boba fett prototype to 10000$ at the comic store, turns around, goes to the con and ends up selling it for 17000$ after lowering form 20000$ I do not know if the buyer saw the show after this but if i was him i would be pretty upset. Yes you gotta have investment on your return but seriously...ripping people off most of the time i do not agree with this.

Big thumbs up for the charm of the show but big thumbs down for the attitude of the host.

I would not like to deal with him at all. not after seeing the shows....

First off, Jordan who does the show is a respected member of the SW community on RS. He forgot more about toys than we'll ever know, I would bet.

Second, didnt he sell that Fett on commission? If he did, which Im sure was the case, he has to add a percentage to the final sale price to get his commission. So saying that he ripped that guy off who bought it is like saying sellers on Ebay ripped you off for selling a figure for $150 when it was originally sold for $1.99. Heres what I was told one time at the auction house my dad used to run by a guy who wanted a piece I had for sale. An item is only worth what someone is willing to pay. So the guy who bought the fett was willing to spend that 17k in the first place. If not, he wouldve been like the 2 basement guys who they showed before him and passed on it. The passion Jordan has for this and the other hobbys hes into, I wish I had it. So before you start bad mouthing or calling someone a rip off/ scam artist, you might want to look into who that person is and why they do what they do.

Chris, i understand what you mean. And no i am not calling off the guy or personally attacking him or anything as such. The guy is in to make money i get that and he is passionate about what he is doing cause it is his job. If he can get a deal why not. But you also have to realise that we are talking about the present also. You cant just go around and try to make people believe that you are making a pile of money on something you got for 1.99$ 30+ years ago and then the guy turns around give you 125$ for it ( fictional number ) then he turns around and sell it for 600-700$. Why can't you the original owner profit from the 600-700$ cake? As for the Boba, ok, the guy was willing to pay that much, but like i said, did he see the show afterwards? if he did, i would like to have his reaction to what happened. I know it is his own fault that he bit on that price but i am sure he is not real happy because he looked like a real -------- to the eye of the people watching the show.

I ll give you another example. A long time ago my folks needed some cash real bad and i had close to 6000 comics that i had accumulated i called a dealer in quebec to see how much i could get for my books and he said to me 500-600$ for my comics. I was like are you kidding me. Most of there were brand new and you are offering practically me nothing for them. Of course i told the guy no and i kept my books. I am not putting ---- in the same mold as this guy but to be honest most people who run collectible stores will give you nothing or close to nothing for your stuff and then sell it off for big bucks. Which really sucks. I do not like there kind of people. really. These type get rich while other people let go of potentially huge amounts of money that could have benefited their family if they were indeed willing to part from their collectibles.

I respect his knowledge and he is a keen business man from what i see. More power to him. Not here to bad mouth him too. Just give you my honest thoughts on this but i do love the show. We finally saw some folks that did work at Kenner and it warms my heart to finally see the people few people are willing to acknowledge for their work they did for our childhood.

I look at it this way we are all tring to make money in this world if you have items you think are valuable then do research on what you own if you don't and someone see's he/she is going to get it for a good deal because you have no clue what you have then you can't blame anyone but yourself I have some items that may be worth a fair penny not just SW but before I sold it I would know all there is to know and what the average selling price is for it. Trust me if I knew someone had something that was worth alot more then they wanted yes I would buy it it's the way the world works I have been ripped off in the past myself I take it as life lessons.

Bud

I kind of get what you mean. It's on lots of these shows (TH, Pawn Stars, Hardcore Pawn, American Pickers, etc..) where you think that they're taking advantage. I think there is an understanding that the person is going to resell so there needs to be profit all around.

Also, it's just a show. These things have been proven to be staged and embellished so enjoy it more as entertainment, less as documentary.

John (DarthBerizing) has made a very good point. You also have to take into account that:
Professional dealers have invested a lot of time in researching their subject, gaining respect & building up a client base.
Dealers have a lot of expenses e.g. travel, shop rent, buisiness rates, income tax etc.
Sellers don't have to accept a dealers offer.
It may appear that some of these dealers make a 'killing' when they sell something for a large proffit, but they are not always that successful & don't do it every day of the week.
Unfortunately these tv shows don't accurately represent the realities of the business. They just focus on big successes in order to make an entertaining show.

Bud, why cant you have a piece of that pie of the 6-700 in your example? Simple, you sold it for what you wanted out of it and your buyer sold it for what he wanted out of it. Lets put it this way. Say I buy Johns, Ledy Bib for say, 1k. 2 years down the line I know I can make a profit off it to say, AussieJames. I sell it to AJ for 2500. Should I have to give John a split of the 1500 profit. He would say hell yhea. lol! But in reality that we live in, it dont go that way. John got his asking price of 1k and I got mine of 2500. Just because I sold it for a 1500 profit, doesnt mean I ripped off or scammed John. If theres anybody out there who buys and sells for a lose only, I would love to meet that person and ask them why the fuck do it then. Everybody is in the game to make side money for their hobby. I know I did when I was selling stuff. You sell off one item to pay for another on your hit list.

It is also worth noting that these shows only show the cream of the crop, or most interesting collectibles, but even these may sit around for months or even years before a dealer can extract any profit from it. A certain amount of mark-up is to be expected since the dealer is taking the risk that no one will buy it for a while!

yes i know the risk of that business, you may think you have a winner and you end up with a lemon that does not sell or will take along time to sell. However i did find that on some stuff he was very fair and offered a decent price. Like the barbie and speeder bike to name a few.
