PostSubject: Cardback - partially attached bubble - what to do?   Cardback - partially attached bubble - what to do? I_icon_minitimeTue Nov 18, 2014 4:56 pm

Hey guys,

I've read through a ton of topics on reseals and people's opinions on them in general.
Normally I wouldn't care for them but I did just pick up a pretty decent shape Leia Bespin 30A Palitoy with non crushed bubble still attached on the right side.
The tape for the gun is still there as well. No footer.

OK....
This is a MOC I haven't seen for sale in the near two years I've been looking. I've only seen one picture I can recall of one at all. So all in all its a rare MOC and I have a rough idea what it would go for if it was sealed.
So now I have this cardback and I am not sure what to do with it.

I have the correct figure and weapon. I also have a decent footer. With the figure in, the blaster back in the original tape and her sitting on the footer, she does look pretty nice. BUT.... the three sides of the bubble that aren't attached really do jump out and show the roughness (see the pic). In an acrylic case, it keeps the left side down OK but not perfect.

So here is my real question.
Should I go ahead and fully reseal the bubble for either looks or just to help ensure the right side doesn't pull off any further (if I display it upright with the figure, I do fear that sooner rather than later it will come off more; resealing it would stop that.

What are your thoughts on finishing it up and using some double sided tape in a few areas to help the look and the seal?
If you don't think the reseal is a good idea, I probably will bag the whole display it with a figure inside (a shame since I have doubts I'll find a sealed one).
If you think at this point resealing it isn't a bad idea, would you use tape or something else?

Anyway.... here is the pic (crappy) - the only issue with the card overall is there is a dark line where there was tape applied to secure the bubble by the previous owner or so (????)... the residue is gone so it appears it either darkened the card or perhaps preserved the original color as the rest of it faded. I'm on the fence but leaning towards a bit of both.

Cardback - partially attached bubble - what to do? 2014-112

Anyway.... anyway...................

Thanks for any thoughts!
Very Happy
cheers!

That's awesome Jay Very Happy

This is a figure you are going to struggle to get and even if one turns up it is going to cost the world, I think this is cool what ever you decide.

It's not like you are going to try and con anyone, it's for you.... call it a place holder Very Happy

Can you remember the guy who sold all the Palitoy cardbacks we watched with bubbles attached that sold for ridiculous money?
Well when I bid n the Luke Bespin one, what you have done with your's is exactly what I was going to do if I had won it, just stick the correct figure in it and display it. I would know what it is and would never sell it so it wouldn't matter.
And if I ever got a fully sealed MOC version, I would probably sell the other in the same way I found it with the bubble and no figure.

Rather then permanently attach it would the "Top Loader Method" work ?

Of course it is yours to do with as you please man - I just thought I remembered seeing another option Very Happy

Thanks so far fellas!

@Alex... Yeah, it won't leave me until I get a real 30A and even then I'm not sure it ever will. BUT... I have decided that if I reseal it, I will write on the bottom of the footer to say reseal even though there is no way that however I seal it (if I do) that it won't be very apparent that it is. It will look wrong even in questionable photos but in HQ shots, it will easily be seen as one.

@James... Yeah, I thought about that too and it would help with keeping the right side attached better than nothing. The only downside is it won't fit inside an acrylic case's rails inside a top loader and I think I really want it inside an acrylic case. BUT... you know, I should try it out and see how it will look along side my MOCs since I have 2 toploaders already cut for that purpose. So... I will give that a shot and see.

That brings up a question... has anyone successfully popped the inner rails of an acrylic case (from toygrader) with any success? If I could pop the rails out and get the toploader inside, that might be the best of both worlds.

Anyway.... thanks again... any other opinions? Rolling Eyes

cheers!  cheers

Very Happy

Good point, which reminds me, I never actually answered the original question of weather to fully seal or not and I personally wouldn't, maybe hold the edge own with a couple of strips of double sided.

I have a Sundance Kid figure with a bubble attached only at the top so it lifts up and the figure can come out. I just had it in a star case which held it in place fine but I needed to free up a Star Case so I cut a rectangle out of a top loader and used that which worked perfectly to hold the bubble down Like James has posted.

or even just insert a piece of paper the same color as the footer with reseal on it - wouldn't have to write on the footer itself that way What a Face

IMO- no tape. " Don't so something you can not undo " I've been meaning to do a step by step alternative to the toploader method. Basically use one half of a toploader ie. cut the joined seams of a toploader - the three edges ( this will allow you to 'fix' two opened bubble 'MOCs' ) Accurately measure the position of the bubble and cut the rectangle out of the toploader sheet. Place this over/on top of the 'MOC' & slip it into an acrylic case/star case. Make sense?
