I've gone with no as it will make it a safer environment to buy sell & trade IMO, we will miss out on a few things, but it would -

1. - as said make it safer (IMO)
2. - know where the items are coming from & from whom, giving the opportunity to send items back if there is an issue
3. - encourage newbies to become part of the community if they want to trade, hopefully thus removing the more random elements, from trading on here & at the same time with luck adding a few more members to the ranks.

Good & bad as with all things, but I feel the +'s will outweigh the -'s

there is always ebay & such like sites for the fly by night blip traders.

My gut reaction was to vote 'no'. I always listen to my gut Smile
There could be a maybe (known collector...) but it would be difficult to define boundaries.

I voted "NO", I don't like TIG to be used as a market outlet for those who do not contribute a lot.

Second question is then how to measure contribution.

How about the minimum amount of posts (>100), and initiated threads (>2).

BTW: I borrowed Chris' avatar yesterday but realize now that I forgot to return it to him.
Will do so 2n8 when back home. Very Happy

I agree with frunkstar & Dr Dengar, if only active members can post FS threads there is less likely hood of being scammed. Fly-by-nights will find it too much hastle to make 100 posts, those that have will hopefully value their TIG reputation & membership too much to shaft anyone!

How about making it so you can't open a post in the classified section until you have 50 or more posts. Thats not too many, but it's enough so that people will see your name and have an idea of what you're about. And of course the mods can check to make sure that it's not 50 "thats cool" posts in the limelight section...lol.

Cheers

I voted no, for the simple fact that if you can post a for sale thread, you can just as easily contribute to the community. I told John the other night that I liked that new rule and it should be done like that. Plus the min 50 post is an excellent idea. I know a comic forum where you cant do anything (avatar, bio, etc.) until you have 50 and a stamp forum is the same way. You have to make 50 legit posts, not no Wow, Cool, crap like that. If you make any like that, your posts will be deleted and not count to your post count.

Another thing is we have alot coming in doing it that no one has heard of before. Im not sending my cash to Joe Blow even if there is an item Ive been looking for for 6 months.

Glad to see this poll. No from me. And a good suggestion for a 50 posts benchmark before hitting the classifieds. WTB/WTT is just the same imo - people might still sign up for just these alone and turn out as scammers or not contribute elsewhere. Same for raffles/comps too... Awesome Blossom Awesome was pretty funny at the time but those posts just took the piss out of good limelights in the end.

Ok, so we can make it 50 minimum posts.

Still I like to add the extra requirement of having at least two initiating posts in the main section.

What is your opinion?

For new members who are serious about being active within this community initiating 2 valid threads & making 50 posts is not much to ask. If these standards are introduced it will undoubtedly benefit their trading activities and the community can benefit from their contributions to the threads.
It surprises me that with the number of registered members, how few seem to regularly contribute posts! Hopefully in the future that will change!

Great Guys

A big No from mere here aswell . I have been a little pissed over this guy who signed up an just stating to post FS . Some one said welcome to him and wellcomed him to share a little about him self .

No replay just more FS post .

So yeah lets lock it down and make a 50+ limit and kick people out if they just spam .

Over at http://actionfiguresca.proboards.com/ They have a FS /WTB and you cant even see it before you have made some post s. Then you have to make 30 post before you can post .

I had a hard time making the 30 post limit , as the forum are mostly not my kind off stuff . So what to say . ( I might have spamed a little Very Happy )

So lets keep it locked down .

And another thing i can remeber that people used to put their FS stuff up here first , so the guys could get a fist peak . Bofore all of RS . It would be great to have stuff like that again . TIG eksklusive for 24H should give people some kind of medel or or what ever .

Things like that and the raffels that we sometimes do should make this place one that people would strive to be a respectet and proud to be part off .

Another idea could be to make some super eksklusive stuff for the core users here . Maybe you could all pay 5-10 dollars a year and one of the admins can evry six months buy some cool moc's or stuff that only people that have paid could be in a raffel about

Some of the money could also be used to run the site . Or kae a donation to some to charity that we make a vote for who or what gets it etc .

Agree. Initiating 2 valid threads isn't too much to ask. It's all about being part of the community. There are plenty of interesting sub sections in TIG to contribute to as well as the main board. Comics, oddball, off topic, competition and community events, collecting blogs, reference and content library etc etc.

In the vintage chat section there's a sticky called 'Who's who introduce yourself' for new members. Most often an older member will say hi and invite the new member to limelight some of their stuff......... so if new members were to take up that invite then there's one valid initiated post straight away.

it's funny Cantina Parton (sorry I forget your name, getting old I am Smile ) mentioned the number of members and the number of people who actually post regularly. We discussed that in chat the other night. We figured there were about 15 people posting on a regular basis. And we counted and it was 15 exactly. I've been doing other things collecting wise these last few months, but I try to comment daily somewhere on here. I'm also not a hugely knowlageable collector because my focus is so narrow, but i try to put my 2 cents in where I can. So if i can contribute a new memeber will have no issues getting over the 51 post minimium.

Also i think we should give some consideration to the suggestions Soren gave here today. They all sound pretty good and easy to do.

A board like this is something that the communiy has to work on all the time to keep fun and interesting. It won't stay awesome just because it was that way a year ago. it takes effort. Lets put in some effort.

I gotta disagree with you guy on this one. I have 43 posts but would like to think that I am known and trusted by enough people around here that it shouldn't matter. I have stuff to sell currently but I'm not about to make 7 BS posts. I think collecting should be open and inviting. Not exclusive.

That's a good point. You are totally trusted to sell but under the 50 posts. Maybe there could be some way to set up a vouching system? Like you have to have a member with certain status vouch for you in order to sell. For instance, after posting a "For Sale" thread, it would require a thread reply from a senior member vouching for you before any transactions are allowed to take place? Perhaps not uploading a pic or price, until you have a "voucher?"

Just an idea.

Possibly I don't make myself very popular now, and I don't mean any disrespect to Trevor or any other well respected collector, but I have to disagree on this. It is not about reputation, it is about contribution. An agreement to sell here should be solely based upon a members' contribution to TIG. Even those who have a very good reputation outside TIG, have to fulfill the same requirements IMO.

Trevor - Your reply is exactly why I created that choice of "depending on the person". The goal is is two fold though. We are trying to increase the membership and get people to come to TIG to be part of the community, not just to come here to either sell something or make an occasional post. It's about membership and growing the site. You can see we're trying to improve the site and get people to make TIG a regular forum to visit.

In your case, it's not about your credibility. In your case, it's about getting you to be a steady member. In the case of the newer collectors, then it's about establishing credibility.
