Subject: Vinyl Cape Jawa, is it real?! Sun Jan 22, 2012 11:39 pm
Hello! Im new here, I've been collecting star wars stuff for 5 or 6 years now, but not much action figures though, mainly statues and lego. But yes, anything and everything and anything Star Wars interests me!
Anyway... I recently found this little guy in a bag of old Star Wars toys, and was wondering if anyone can tell me exactly what it is? Is it THE Jawa( you know what I mean:))? Or a cheap reproduction? Unfortunately the gun has been misplaced. Oh, and it was passed down to me by my cousins (in their 40s now) and it is unlikely that that it traded hands much (i.e it is unlikely that this item was bought recently).
So here are the pics...

The arm holes look a bit big (might be worn) : http://web.ncf.ca/cn333/vcjawa.htm

Wow that is a letdown:( I thought the country of origin info made it legit!
so...
Its authentic because 1. Country of origin info looks correct!
Its fake because 1. No wafflepattern 2. Armholes too big.
Were the armhole distance on these the same size? Perhaps I could measure it. Are there any closeups of the loose figure? Especially the waffle pattern?
Thanks!!

not an expert but it does look a little weird. what bugs me the most is the size of the cape at shoulder level, it just looks too big. But then again, i have never seen one of those for real so i would not know, it looks like the body of the figure might be legit but have a fake cape on....but then again the color and some aspect of the cape looks to meet criteria... i would say if you can find a crosshatch pattern in the cape then you have a legit one despite the size of the armholes.
here are a few links to help also...

try to scratch the cape with your nails and hear if it gives away a scratchy sound,i think the cape looks a little bit too big but im not 100% sure its fake.
if you take a macroshoot with your camera you should see the pattern otherwise its just a kenobi cape

Hi,
Thanks for the comments and links guys,
Got the little guy cleaned up sooo..more pics...
Im guessing the figure is real, but for the cape, not so sure...
Anyone got macro pics taken with an average digital camera? the one on the reference site is zoomed in alot! not something my camera can do!
As for the scratchy sound, man, I m not sure what im supposed to hear? The cape is a little bit sticky because of its age, and i think that could affect the surface appearance slightly
Yes, the cape armholes would have been worn as the figure has been played with.
Now, did the cloth cape jawas have the "1977" marking on them? So the Jawa is likely to be the real deal you guys think?? What makes me think this is the country of origin stamp, period
the measurements for the cape are when it was stretched out flat, I cant spread it and take pictures at the same time

When i zoom your new pictures i think i can see a slightly pattern on the cape i think its 90% real about macro shoots choose the flower on your camera and put on alot of light after you take your shoots you can zoom them in your computer

huhhhhhh??? You can see a pattern...sure...me too...but do you really see a waffle pattern??? Me not!
Even with waffle pattern the armholes are waaay to big.
Its a cut down Kenobi cape or not...it is no legit VC cape IMO!

I'm with Wolff. The arm holes alone are enough to say it's fake.
I'm locking this post, for now. I'll explain at a later date
