Hi Guys,

I have collected comics for almost 20 years and i am selling them now. They are taking too much space and I cant read them all and such. I have always wanted to collect star wars toys even as i was collecting comics but the collecting venues were limited at the time so i never got into it until the potf 2 line and a little bit of other collection when they were coming out.

A few months ago i decided to get into the real vintage stuff from the 70's and 80's because of the nice neo vintage cards that are coming out. I have done very well so far. What i am doing is selling comics on ebay then i turn around and i buy some auction (s) out but frankly it has become a chore and sometimes an aggravation to do, Plus 90% of the people just wanna pay peanuts for the books even if you are charging peanuts so my profit margin is real low. With the advertising on ebay and the cost associated with shipping i am barely just making a profit and most time i end up paying to sell my items because shipping is just killing me. Comics are just real hard to sell at a profit on ebay because of the competition or just that people want them almost for free. the only comics that would sell well would be the early silver age ones and even then it may cost you a lot to sell an issue.

That being said i was thinking of maybe trying to offer comics in trade of figurines or other star wars kenner stuff but i am not sure on how to go about it. A trade for trade might sometimes not work out and i am wondering if i should go that way. I have at least 5 or 6 long boxes full of different comics ( from the 70's up to early 2000's) from different publishers and i was thinking of at least trying to get original cover price for each issue or decent market value if it is a key issue or desirable issue which is not really happening on ebay. I know that some people here probably collect comics and would probably want some of mine in trade for their spare toys but i am not sure who to trust or go about doing this properly to avoid problems.

The ideal scenario would be for me to trade an equivalence ( cover value or market value) of money in comics including shipping fee against a C9 graded toy ( figures at least ) priced fairly. That way i get a toy i need and the receiver gets a batch of comic books he wants. I would rather trade my comics here with someone than giving them to vultures on ebay.

any suggestions?

thanks

Hi mate

I know that there are some people that collect comics here Chris-J for one . So just post a list of what you want and what you got . If you don't think the "price" is right in a offered trade , then don't do it .

I for one have done some great trades here on the board . And are very happy with trading. Right now people don't relly wanna spend much money so a trade might be a good idea for both parts .

The thing about trusting people , well most people here shuld be trustet if they have more then a few posts . And most have trade feed back here or on RS .

If they don't have feed back , they they might be new here or just did not trade or buy any thing yet .
When i startet out trading /buying here i shiped my stuff out first , and told the guy at the other end not to ship before my stuff was there at his door .

But if people want to F... you , then there are so many ways they can do it . So mostly it comes down to trust ( And not being a fool )

Good luck on your trades and wellcome in the world of real vintage collecting Very Happy

best

Soren

Thing is with alot of the 80's and 90's stuff, you can pick up lots of them for next to nothing. I was buying boxes (that hold 200-300 books) of modern (2000 to present) on Ebay for $40-60 a pop. And recently, I bought 6 boxes from a member here for around 40 each. I tried to buy a guy out at my local flea market, but he would never give me a price. I was getting books from him from 25 cents to 1.50 each. And that was stuff from the 70's to 2010. The market is down right now on comics, believe it or not, unless its some key issues from the 30's to the 60's. But they have to be some top knotch nm to mint books. When online comic dealers can sell books for 25-50 cents a piece for 80's and 90's stuff, you know theres no real market to it. But lots of 6-10 books wont sell for $10-20 each. I know, cause I just bought a lot of Dark X-Men 1-5 along with Dark X-Men: The Confession and Utopia story line parts 1 and 2 (8 books total) for $4.99. And those are from 2009. But its all about condition. If theres spine rolls, covers not folded right, etc., people wont pay top book price for them. I know I wont.

Chris is right comics are a tough thing to sell. Especially when they aren't key issues or not graded. But it doesn't hurt to try.
