| It's something my wife and I have thought about for a long time and perhaps one day we will, I have only visited once and she hasn't been at all and its a huge decision so its not going to be next week even if we do decide to. A question to those of you who may have thought about moving away to America : Where the fuck would you go? LOL If you could move anywhere with a clean slate, not having to worry about location for work in America where would you put yourself and why? Where have you guys visited on holiday that you enjoyed? Any and all input welcome |

| I would definately go rural with a lot of land and good security/rifles City lifes far too quick, rough, noisy etc, i would like somewhere quiet, private and not too far from a small town for supplies. Ive fancied going there for a long time but work/cash/kids etc kinda makes that impossible but it would be my first choice of country. Oh and stop signing in as hidden, we can still see you |

| Joe I think you should come to either Wyoming, Colorado or Utah. That way you are within driving distance to Shawn and I! Seriously though, if you aren't used to a "big" city, then I would take Cobra's advice and stay away from them. Just getting around in places like Denver, San Antonio, Dallas, Phoenix and the like can be kind of hectic... especially if you are unfamiliar to it. Not only that, but the cost of living is insane! Mid-west to interior-west is a decent alternative in my opinion. You could always come visit and we could show you guys around! |

| Whats the immigration laws like there? Easy to become a citizen etc? How do you even go about just moving over there to live? I haven't travelled out of Australia so don't know much about how all that would work! Enlighten me lads |

| In my honest opinion as a resident of the United States.... move to Canada!!! This country is going to the shitter!!!!!!
But if I had to give you a general location in the US.... stick with the quiet suburbs close to a big city that has great public transportation!!!!
City life isn't all that bad!!! I've lived in Chicago, IL (3rd in US population) and its near by suburbs all my life (granted I'm only 29) its great. You don't get the hustle and bustle of the major metropolitan area like downtown Chicago. But anytime I want to go into the city or downtown, I'm only a 30 min car drive or walking distance from public transportation!!!!
Don't go rural... unless you plan on doing some major commercial farming, retiring, or being bored to death. My family has property up in Necdeah, Wisconsin.... bout 45 mins away from the Wisconsin Dells (Waterpark Capitol of the US). It's in the middle of no where, too far away from any major city like Madison, Milwaukee, or La Crosse. It's great for a week vacation... but not to live a life!!!
Thats just my opinion as a US resident

| Well if you have 250,000 dollars you can invest in an American company or whatever you can get a green card which is instant American citizenship
If you have a trade i guess theres that way in too, not sure on just turning up without either of the above though |

| I would love to move over there but I really couldn't decide were to exactly, my Dad is in Wisconsin and its the state I have visited most frequently, its similar to the rural area I live in now so it would be an easy move. I would love to live in a big city for a change though. New York City was the most fun but to be honest I could see the novelty wear off even in my short stay there. I will end up over there at some point in the future no doubt, all my family is moving to Australia or the U.S. anyway |

| Any where but the U.S. Me personally, anywhere in the country away from a town or big city. In those places, theres more problems than anything. In the country, make sure the nearest neighbor is a mile down the road or you wont have much privacy for shit. But make sure you do research on what jobs are like in the area first. |

| My sister-in-law just made the move from the UK to the US. Her green card doesn't become "official" for two more years (I think). She's carrying dual citizenship with the US and UK and still maintains both passports. Part of the deal with that though, is she has to go back to the UK every six months or so. My father-in-law sponsored her on her visa. And I think that's pretty much all there is to it. I can definitely find out more for anyone that's interested. And I wouldn't move to Canada. Their gun laws are too restrictive. |

| The only place i've been to in America is Las Vegas & loved it!I've been 4 times now & absolutely love the place, don't really gamble when i've been apart from slot machines & roulette but there's so much to see & do,the weathers brilliant & the shoppings a lot cheaper than the UK. I've always wanted to go to a big boxing match at the MGM Grand & finally managed to do this in 2006! |

| It sure would be a huge move , nice to read all the feedback and suggestions here, its definitely something we will look into one day. The only place I visited was the west coast starting in Las vegas and moving up through Californa, a few days in each tourist place , was a great holiday and I have some great memories from there, I bet most places in California are expensive to live in? It wouldn't be a million miles away from you guys Shawn and Chris either! - coachk28 wrote:

Perhaps in 2-3 years America will abolish Green cards and visas so the tired and poor and homeless can move over if that's the motto At worst I hope we can have a holiday out there in a few years and we will definitely try to meet up with my friends in Wyoming and Utah |

| I think you should go for it Joe,when i was last there in 2007 i asked people who lived there how much things cost like petrol(gas!)& utilities & they said it was a lot cheaper compared to here in the UK but i don't know if that is still the case plus i didn't know what their salaries were in comparison to the cost of living.Maybe one of the american lads could chime in here. |

| I thought living in the UK was quite expnsive so anywhere else is going to be cheaper? Minumum wage in America is scary (like half Australia's). I'd like to do a long driving holiday across America one day. That's IF they'd give me a visa |

| Gas here at the moment, in Alabama, is $2.64 which they are blaming the cold weather for the price hike . And I have some cousins living in Cali. From my understanding, the costly is the big cities like L.A.. Now you can go way out in the country and it might be cheaper. Minimum wage now is around $8.00 an hour. |

You're right James,i forgot about us being one of the most expensive places to live in the world! Chris, the minimum wage in the UK is £5.80 an hour(about $9)but i reckon the cost of living is cheaper in the US than the UK. |

| I don't know about cheaper. Some houses around here go for $6-700 a month for rent, not buying. There are also those for $3-400 for 2-3 bedrooms. Townhouses for $1200, etc. If I had the money to move, I'd buy a villa in the French country side. |

| What would a house cost to buy in the US that rents for $700 a month? It's hard to do an "average" but I'll have a rough go: Australian home $400 a WEEK rent or $500 000 to buy, household income $80 000(pay about 35% income tax), new family car $35 000, fuel $1.3 a litre ( $US4.5 a gallon) Less 10% to convert to $US, just over half to turn into pounds. |
