Still new collecting, but I have two different R2D2, One 1977 Hong Kong GMFGI, the other 1977 Taiwan GMFCI. The question I have more are toward the Taiwan. Has anyone ever had a dome to rust? Here are some pictures if someone can take a look.

I've never seen a non ferrous material rust :scratch:

My guess is that it is just rust stuck to the surface. Maybe R2 was laying underneath something that was made of metal and it rusted and leaked onto his dome. I don't think the metallic paint has anything that would rust either? The paint usually just flakes & peels. The only time I see any rust is at the bottom of the post where the metal screw hold the head onto the body, and it is just surface rust and I've seen a lot of beaters. :scratch:

Look at all those poor dead R2s Batteries left in vehicles can produce a toxic rust sludge that as Clint said may have dripped on R2 at some point in his life.

There, there AJ, no need to cry. They are slowly being brought back to life. Still need some improvements, so they are a work in progress.

Died as a rebel, reborn as an imperial. They do look better now though than in the parts pile for sure.

just got this R2D2 w/sensorscope (the one on the right, not on the left, the circle is an error). Extremely dark blue stripes on the leg and no COO..unfortunately it is not in impressive condition...
