| Not sure this post would serve any purpose besides me venting out, but I just cut through an original vintage Lando vinyl cape in excellent condition while opening a very fine loose mint Lando It was very nicely (and tightly) packed, and I carefully got a scissors tip on the very top of the bubble wrap, not knowing that Lando's cape extends so high around his head... And I cut. The cape got a cut from the shoulder up to almost it's edge Guess been the noob collector I am it will serve a teaching purpose... But still, I really feel down about it right now. So I'll just vent here Oh well... Did you guys do such stupid stuffs in your collector career ? |

| Pretty much every time I get a new figure it's engulfed in bubble wrap and then bound in tape, ironically this is to protect it, but I genuinely have to take huge amounts of care just to get the figure out with out damaging it A simple wrap of bubble wrap with one tight piece of sellotape (not all the way round) is more than sufficient folks |

| I've had a few 'accidents' opening stuff. Broken weapons trying to break the tape by pulling I am very careful now. |

| I've had more figures arrive damaged because someone was trying to package them carefully than any other way, lol.
I learned a long time ago, the hard way as well, that packing tape is only 25 microns thick on average so I usually take a sharp razor blade and try very carefully slit it just deep enough to slice through the tape and nothing else.

| Man thats a sad story i guess its good to see im not the only one to make this kind of mistake.i had a carded figure sent to me.i got a stanley knife and sliced open the tape on the top of the box.when i opened it,i had cut the cardback clean in half.luckily it was only a jedi lobot.he became a loose lobot never understood how they filled the box with peanuts then placed the carded figure on top so it was right up against the flaps of the top.there was no way i could have opened it without cutting the card.unless i opened it from the bottom.i also did the same with a box of mex bootlegs.cut halfway through a dengar.luckily it was just one of those silicone crap ones.i didnt know it was silicone when i bought it though.what a putz we live and learn. | Thanks for sharing guys Guess I'll have to take it as a collector's lesson in life. And Lando, well... we'll say his cape is "battle scarred" now |

sounds familiar Larry I dropped a Star Wars weapon on my floor without realizing it a couple years ago - a little while after I noticed my dog Tira chewing on something ... after I finally got it away from her I discovered it was a Black Palace Blaster that I had just spent $25 on as you mentioned Larry , it was a damn good thing she is cute |

Having posted this picture, you are now officially my wife's second favorite Star Wars collector*...we're kind of dachshund people... Back on topic: I over-packaged an AFA 85 MOC Takara Sculpt C-3P0 and sent it overseas...it was very secure from impact, but not so much from vibration I think, and the bubble did not survive the trip intact. Tragic in-transit destruction of a very beautiful MOC! *Hope I am still right about this! |
