| Hi guys I have noticed that a lot of us love old toy ads . Not just SW , but all the ads that we sat drooling over when we where kids. Or just cool ads that we find now in our search for SW ads So when talking to Paul ( Artoo_Detour) we got the idea to make a little tread with ads , so you guys can kick back and look at something not SW .But still cool . But watch out that you don't fall in love with this stuff and have to go and get i Enjoy and feel free to kick in some ads. This is a 1981 Playmobil ad from a danish Donald Duck magazine: |

| As Soren was saying, we were both having a chat in PM about non SW vintage toys and ads and thought we'd get a thread rolling - please contribute any cool ads you have Here's a 1978 ad from Pif Gadget for Six Million Dollar Man - licensed by Meccano in France: And another French ad from Pif Gadget, this time 1982, TCR 'Total Control Racing' set: _________________________________________________ Paul F,

| Great ads Chris, I have the Playmo and Tente ones in my blog.
Yep, the Tente is very much like LEGO - it's a Spanish company formed in 1972 and they distributed their sets throughout Europe, USA and Japan. Nicely collectable esp if you can find them still boxed. _________________________________________________ Paul F,

| Those are some killer ads. I was thinking the other day about what mags came with ads on them here and remembered that in the late 70's/ early 80's comics were famous for having either toy or video games ads on the back cover. So I checked a few random ones on the shelf and heres what I found. Lego challenge ads. Lone Ranger Western Town mail-away, Popples, and Go bots Nestle contest ad. Whenever I get a chance to go through the rest of the 1000+ books I got, I'll post up some more. |

| Seeing that ABBA ad makes me remember those long ago days sitting at an ice cream shop in Pennsylvania and dropping quaters in the music box on the table. Those were the good days. I'll go through some of my comics to see what I can find to add over the weekend. Are we just doing toys or can I add some for video games? If not, I'll start a new thread for the games by thierselves. I know I got a ton of them. |

| Soren talking about these vintage ABBA 9" dolls made by MATCHBOX. I came across these pictures from my Internet search : from what I've read they were released in 1978 and another pic of these loose and complete set of MATCHBOX vintage ABBA dolls can be seen here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/superbrad/4328109459/sizes/l/in/photostream |

| I know what you mean Chris . When i have been in shops looking thru old magz . I was some times sendt way back. When i saw a cover or an an ad.
That is what this tread is all about . Look at cool stuff an get sendt back to the god old days .
So bring on all your game ads mate. I myself have some to kick in and even some non toy ads that just rock or are funny .
Peter , that is a great ad you found on the ABBA dolls . The one i postet is from May 1978 and the ad says that they get released in the end of May. |

| Thats a cool ad Peter. Guess those things are sorta rare? I just looked on Ebay and all that popped up was paper dolls. Not like I was going to buy any if they popped up. I'll see what I can find, Soren. I might be off work tomorrow so I'll start the search then. I know I'll have a bunch to add to the list when I'm done for the games, Atari, Nintendo, SNES, etc. |

| Great additions everyone, those ABBA dolls are ace and I also never knew they made them. Seeing the ABBA reminded me that, in France, Chantal Goya is a very famous singer for children and Mattel made a doll with accessories for her: From 1979 - Chris, great idea to add some electronic games too. Here's a few I have: From Pif, 1983, Donkey Kong From Picsou magazine, some PacMan: and from Pif, Pink Panther: _________________________________________________ Paul F,

| Theres a nice market for some of the old Nintendo hand helds like those similar to the Pac Man one. Some go for good cash. I like the table top versions of the cabinets they came out with. Wouldn't mind getting my hands on a few of them myself one day. |

| Some killer ads there Soren, the Disco Girls are great (lol we're limelighting girls' dolls) The Matchbox Fighting Figures are cool and they must have done some serious fighting because one dude has lost his leg and the other one his hand lol I think the Corgi Beatles is very cool and I never knew LEGO made a Robin Hood set! This thread makes me so nostalgic, and I too had a few of those handheld games back in the day, snoopy tennis and Donkey Kong jnr I think. _________________________________________________ Paul F,
