Sorry Dennis, I would say that this helmet is stripped too.
Looking forward to your helmet pics, Stef.

Stefan if this is a stripped one it is one of the cleanest I have seen. There is no remnants of coloring and no color bleeding that I can see at all. Also it looks like it has some sort of deformity from the back? I wonder if this was something that was supposed to be scrapped and somehow made its way into circulation? There is one tiny dot of something in the visor of the helmet in your pic, but it is so small and I don't see any other discoloration at all.

ackredies, I would have assumed that you had updated or even removed your eBay auction, but it seems that is not the case? I believe only the price was lowered a bit, but tbh I don't remember the initial price. cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=171125024280&ssPageName=ADME:B:SS:DE:1120

"I do not know if it is classed as a first shot or prototype but have seen that referenced on several sites regarding this type of helmet" really?? To date all pre- production versions are Hong Kong ( lettered )

I'd recommend pulling that auction.

Do you mean the link (it's a BIN with offer), or do you mean the seller should stick to this policy: http://pages.ebay.com/help/policies/authenticity-disclaimers.html ? |

It's safe to say imo that the unpainted helmet listed with the BIN isn't genuine. So for the seller to maintain his integrity he should either remove the listing or change the description to "custom / fake?"

Agreed- mentioning prototype/first shot is a 'stretch' at best

I usually don't post eBay links, but I thought this was a good excuse for an exception. If anyone feels I should remove it, I will (or if a mod is quicker, I'm not offended )

| If the listing continues it's probably best starting a watch out thread.

I have no issues with it- it's not an auction link. Certainly something that can & is being discussed. edit: Listing has been re worded |

For the record: Auction before and after small TIG intervention. TIG member ackredies was very cooperative to make the necessary changes. ******BEFORE****************AFTER

My bad, I misinterpreted the PM I got from carlos this morning (either wishful thinking or it was just too early ). He isn't looking to sell, just looking for valuation. I know you won't let him down.

Good to see you back Carl:) There may have been a batch of unpainted helmets from the Taiwan factory. There is no way IMO to determine if any have been stripped. The TIG team have experimented & proven this- UV light etc etc. Factory error figures ie. missing paint on one hand or belt buckle etc. usually sell for twice ++ a 'normal' one. That is what I'd value an 'unpainted' Taiwan helmet at. Why are there no painted Taiwan helmets that are larger & more flexible? ( a result of chemical stripping? ) Surely it wasn't a different larger mould? Maybe an odd batch of plastic went through & paint didn't stick very well. " />

My thoughts are that the unpainted Taiwan helmets are factory errors. I'd guess that issues with the plastic temperature and expansion/contraction of plastic led to oversized helmets and the paint masks couldn't fit so they were left unpainted. Just my theory As a factory error I'd suggest £20 or £30 value would be about right. Prototype helmets can be from the Taiwan or Hong Kong factories and sometimes molded in different colours. I have never seen any prototype unpainted helmets that are enlarged. Any claims or mention of the word prototype are ridiculous unless it comes with a prototype figure or is backed up with a COA. I think Ackredies eBay ad is still extremely misleading to include the word prototype without any evidence and the price is far too high.

Wow that is quite a bit of shrinkage. With the stripped one did it lose any chemical smell or did the smell remain. I am just curious if the chemical smell remains as this could be a way to tell if they have been stripped. I have some helmets in my collection without paint and I would have to get them out of storage to have a look, but I don't remember them having any chemical residue smell to them nor any major defects. I do remember one of them was oversized in comparison to the others, but I don't remember the other unpainted ones being any smaller than a normal production helmet.
