Just to preface, this isn't a JoeY discussion. It's really a question about your personal need to get your items. I am a borderline maniac about it. I have zero patience and want to know that my stuff was shipped within 1-2 days of my paying. People that have sold to me can attest that I make it a condition when I buy. Conversely it makes me a great seller because I ship either the same day or within 24 hours because I know how bananas I can get.

So what're your thoughts?

I usually ship stuff out same or next day myself.

If i sell something late saturday night monday morning usually is the soonest next day i ship.

It realy depend's what day and time an item sell's but ya i like to ship my item's out fast and send an email to the buyer there stuff has been shipped.

I know it suck's when a seller takes more than two week's just to get the item to the shipper,Fk what dousche bag's they can be.

I had an item that a seller did'nt ship for a month after i purchased it,I thought he forgot about me.46 day's later it finally arrived.

I am used to things taking ages (up to 6 weeks) to arrive. So I am pretty patient. BUT I'd like to think if I pay within 48 hours I'd get my items sent within 1 week maximum. I haven't sold many things, and it would be difficult for me to get to a post office within a few days. I think the key is good communication. EDIT under certain shit tuations I'll happily wait longer Razz Wink

Love to get items within two weeks of having paid for it. The only time I spazzed out was when I bought an item from someone just north of Montreal, Canada, which is a few hours from my home. He shipped pretty quickly but it still took weeks and weeks (1 month?) to get the item. It ended up being the postal service and not the seller, but it made me really stressed.

As a buyer, I like to have it shipped within a week. Anything beyond that is unacceptable. If theres is going to be a delay in it being shipped, let me know. Communication goes a long way in any situtation. The same way with paying. Unless you and the seller agreed upon payments, if something comes up let them know. My dad had to go into the hospital for heart surgery last Feb, but I made an effort to send payment to a seller the day I found out because I said it was going to be sent. And I let the seller know about it too, and it still took almost a month before he sent the stuff out. Now if its an international deal, I know it takes longer to ship out and to recieve it.

As a seller, I try to ship 2-3 days after payment is recieved. Back when I sold my last collection, I was shipping on Wens. and Fridays. If I couldn't ship on the day I expected to, I let the buyer know, I couldn't make it the day I said that it will go out on X day. I never had a complaint on shiping times except one guy from Germany. He asked if the item shipped because it was two weeks after he paid. But to come to find out, it was in customs at the time. Even playing middle-man in a deal, I try to ship the next day of recieving the items because I know the original buyer is waiting on the stuff.

All in all, communicate with your buyers. When a buyer doesn't hear from you period, it makes them wonder if something is going on.

I know. Thats the biggest problem alot of sellers are having lately. Not just on Ebay, but other places too. They are very happy to take your cash, but then the "Oh, I'll ship their shit out whenever I feel like it, maybe a month or two from now or when they start to complain and I'm forced to do it" mentality kicks in. It just pisses you off. I've had better luck with international deals than state-side deals lately. I got some items in Saturday from Japan that took 8 days from shipping date to arrive, and it takes two weeks from Cali for something to come in.

Another thing is some sellers who take money orders for payment. I used to deal with M.O.'s alot before I switched to Paypal. Alot of sellers won't let you know when it arrives. If you take money orders, please let the buyer know it arrived safe. Just like when you recieve your items. Sure there's a tracking number and the seller knows its arrived, but out of respect, let the seller know if it did make it safe and sound. I hate to have to ask if it did or not, but I will.

Interesting and relevant topic John!

Without looking just to the 2 watchout threads regarding Joe Y i do think that quite a lot of long term RS members can be really bad when it comes to shipping i think what makes it worse is when communication becomes poor as well. A lack of comms when you are leaving buyers waiting 1 month plus for there items is a surefire way to end up in a watch out thread.

I think one of the important things to consider in all of this is Paypals changes to there policy.

Before you had 90 days to make a claim which meant if someone was going to take 1 or 2 months to send your item out then you could be patient because you knew you still had the benefit of PP Protection.

Whilst PP Protection may not help you against the scammers who take your money then clear there accounts on an off ebay deal what it does do is give many users protection when dealing with long term sellers on forums as you know they last thing they would do is cut themselves off from paypal as its central to their involvement in the hobby. So ultimately if you had to force a claim your cash will be recovered and they'll have a hold on their account and in some cases a negative balance on their account to deal with. It’s worth noting PP are pretty relentless in recovering money they will try and pull the money back off any card or account you have on file and indeed they’ll apply every day if required to get the cash back they even go as far as not let you remove all your cards these days!

It’s only very recently that PP has changed the claim period from 90 days to just 45 days! Now posting to some countries like Italy means you need to be sending the item out straight away as it could take the postal service’s a month plus to get it there.

I think the knock on effect of these changes in PP are now been seen in the hobby.

The big RS Sellers who are notorious for slow shipping will end up in the types of situations Joe Y has found himself in more and more simply because buyers have a deadline of 45 days to recover their money.

If you don’t initiate a claim on day 45 then your effectively waiving away any right via PP to try and recover your money obviously there are still options if you own certain types of credit cards but this isn’t a route open to many people.

I for one feel guilty if it has took me a week to ship an item out (this is the longest it would ever take me) and i aim to ship within 3 working days of payment.

The slow shippers on RS have to realize that they cant expect buyers to part with hundreds of dollars to not receive anything for over 6 weeks then not bother (for whatever reason) to respond to the buyers PM’s / Emails and still expect then to not issue a recovery claim via PP on the deadline date.

Just my thoughts

Good points on Paypal, Jay, but there is no protection on gifts payments or is there? I know alot of sellers on RS are asking for gift payments now to get around the fees, but that leaves alot of the impatient buyers out of the loop to file a claim. And when a seller is slow on shipping it just makes a bad situtation worse.

Ive sold a couple of items on ebay ( none vsw ) and i ship soon as possible, i work shifts so if say im on lates i have all day to get to post office, but on days its tight to make post office, I do let people know when ive sent there stuff off

Some of theguys ive dealt with on here and couple of other forums let you know when they have shipped and indeed tracking numbers which is great, it gives peice of mind just to know your purchase is en route, it is a bit annoying to send money then hear nothing back untill the item arrives, even a cheers mate got ya dosh would be enough.

pay pal seem to me to take the side of the buyer (imho) and ive had a nightmare claim ongoing since january !!!

Im normaly quite good, Ive just bought a MOC Scout.... carnt belive its not here yet lol!

I always post the morning after sale and send a dispatched email with the tracking number and link to the royal mail tracking website.
It gives both parties peace of mind.
Plus i always use a new box and pack it out well,as a collector i give a service equal to the one i would expect i think this is the only way to trade.
As a buyer i worry constantly until my purchase arrives hopefully in the condition it was sold to me,which as we all know is not always the case.
The main worry for me is damage in transit as every country has heavy handed posties who must like sitting on parcels and kicking them to the front door which combined with the terrible packaging some sellers send items in is a massive worry.
This makes me impatient mostly more so than the excitement factor which takes over leaps and bounds when i recieve the item as it should be safe and sound.
I must say also when i post my cards to AFA that worries me the most as i live in the UK and the transit period is longer than i would like even though i send them well protected i always get paranoid the postie will violently jolt the parcel causing the figure to break through the bubble.

I whole heartedly beleive that communication is the key.

When i am buying i will generally chat about how quickly the seller can ship, method if shipping and ensure that they can get a a tracking number on the item.

Sad thing is i will then keep the tracking website on my iphone and check at least once per day for updates. Especially on the more expensive items.

As for selling - i will let the buyer now at the point of sale when i am likely to be able to ship it. I will then email them and let them know it has gone and send them the tracking number.

I know there has been a lot of stuff said recently about Joe, but i have to be honest, when i have bought stuff from him in the past it has always turned up in reasonably good time. And he is a stand up member of our collecting community.

Agree with Steve that communication is key.

As a seller I aim to ship within three days but often it's the following day. I also message-in a 'congratulations/thanks' with Ebay invoices and also a quick message to let them know when I've posted. That way they always receive 2 messages and I think that goes some way to reassuring the buyer everything is on the ball.

I also send everything 2nd class recorded delivery with a tracking number. This ensures some degree of protection for the seller (of which there is very little against dishonest buyers). If you are a seller PayPal are f'ers imo, based on accounts of people I know who have been shafted by PP.

As a buyer, I pay immediately - the longest I went without paying was 24 hours and I felt lousy all the way through. I'm so sad. lol.

I do get mad if my item is shipped late as I mostly pay instantly. I've been quite lucky so far and most of my items have arrived on time. I hate it when the item has not been properly packaged and protected. I love it when the seller includes a free gift or a beater figure or even a quick hand written note of thanks! That goes a long way Smile
