Subject: 1st Annual " TIG STAR WARS PUMPKIN CARVING CONTEST " - **WINNING ENTRIES** Fri Oct 04, 2013 3:09 pm
Hi fellas -
Well its my favorite time of year (who would have guessed ) and I have asked the other team members if I could host a Pumpkin Carving contest ... they said it was okay
I will be giving a cool vintage Star Wars prize to the winner
TIG team members Marco (Dr Dengar) , AJ (Aussie James) and James (ourchickenshack) will be the doing the judging - so we will not be entering pumpkins in the contest
The Rules :
#1) Your Pumpkin (or melon) must be Star Wars related and have at least have a small "TIG" carved , painted or drawn on it somewhere . Please be sure that the "TIG" is visible in at least one of the photos that you post .
#2) Your entry can be carved , painted or decorated in whatever way you see fit . Be creative in whatever form you like - as long as it is a Pumpkin (or Melon) and its Star Wars related I don't care how you present it
#3) You may enter as many different Pumpkins/Melons as you like
#4) Entries will be accepted from today through the 31st of October .
I hope everyone thinks that this will be as much fun as I do
Jay ... I know you have already done one so please post your pics here and be our 1st contestant
The winner will not be chosen until after the 31st so that everyone has plenty of time to participate if they want to
I have been informed that Pumpkins are not plentiful everywhere in the world (Particularly in France ) . So , I have edited the rules to include watermelons , cantaloupes , honeydews or any other damn melon you can get your hands on . Now even those of you who live in Pumpkin deprived countries can participate
it looks like some really cool effects could be achieved with a Watermelon too ...

I've only carved a couple of pumpkins, but I'm up for the challenge.

I would have loved to enter but unfortunately I won't be able to add "TIG" to the pumpkin. At around 7:36 PM Eastern, Jack-o-Vader upset my 2 year old niece and she swiftly punched him in the grill. The devastating blow knocked in and crushed his soft, pumkiny face.
R.I.P Jack-o-Vader 9/29/2013 - 10/4/2013 he was only 5 days old but his brief candle lit life impacted everyone who met him
see you on the dark side, bud!
cheers!

we will all miss Jack-o-Vader - particularly his lovely wife
Jay - since your Vader pumpkin was actually what inspired me to have the competition to begin with he still has to be entered You carved him before I made the rules up so your Vader will be the only pumpkin exempt from having TIG on it Please feel free to carve another pumpkin too though as there is no limit to the number of entries

I might give another one a go... this time using a dremel to speed things up and create a gore fest of flying pumpkin skin and flesh!
cheers!

How were you planning on stopping it going mouldy? I've soaked mine overnight in watered down bleach before. Usually makes them last 2+ weeks.

I bought a basic pumpkin carving kit today. I've got a design or two in mind. All I need to do now is find a pumpkin & develop some carving skills , so hopefully I'll get something posted next weekend.
Who else is going to give this a go?

Well done Clint, the more entrants the better!
@ Andy, I'll look forward to seeing the results of your Big Knife method (I think I'll need more than one pumpkin as well... I anticipate that there will be a lot of pumpkin pies made this year).

Haha Stef, that's still gotta be up there as one of my favourite ever scenes in a film.... Maybe slightly topped by Indie's answer to a big knife

Keep in mind guys that you don't have to carve the pumpkins if you don't want to . You can paint them , draw on them , glue stuff to them or anything else you can think of that you want to do - just be creative and make any kind of Star Wars pumpkin you want
I know that most of the entries probably will not come in until much closer to the 31st because pumpkins don't last a real long time once they are carved - so don't worry , there is no hurry to enter your pumpkin
Thank you to everyone who has said they plan to enter
so far I believe the potential contestants are :
Jay (psybertech) Andy (Nico) Steve (cantina_patron) Paul (Artoo_Detour) Larry (arohk) Clint (Commander Clint) Alex (General Kahn) Stefan (walkie)
and hopefully John (DarthBerizing) - although he hasn't confirmed yet
Hopefully even more guys will decide to enter - as Steve said , the more entries the better
As of right now there will be at least 2 catagories to win in : Overall Best Pumpkin and Funniest Pumpkin
The prizes will remain a mystery but I promise you will like the prizes if you win

Very impressive Alex, but just remember: 'It's not size that's important, it's what you do with it!' (At least that's what she told me last night. )
Here's my small tool.

Just for a bit of pre-Halloween fun... and as it's going to be a little while before we get to show off our creations, it got me thinking...
if you could ask a movie/TV/comic hero to come and 'guest carve' your pumpkin who would you ask?
Obviously your character should have some sort of carving implements/skills/Jedi mind carvery tricks
My top three in no particular order are....
Freddy - he soon makes short work of those pesky pumpkins...
The Bride - efficient, ruthless, clean and quick...
Edward - patience is key, starts with a pea, works his way up!
Who you gonna invite, TIG'ers?
