Which direction do you turn the vintage x wing motor to try to jump start it?

the motor itself should turn clockwise if I remember correctly it's the same type as in the falcon and tie fighter. if it isn't moving when powered up check the connections at the motor they should be tight if not the contacts inside the motor could be shot.

Thanks for the reply. I have seen that thread already.The wheel actually turns both ways, I was just wondering which way to try to jump start it, and you said clockwise, which is what I thought,I just wanted someone more in the know to inform me, so I thank you for that.

I have cleaned the connectors,I hit it with some electronic cleaner and some 3 in 1 oil, but to no avail.Any other suggestions?Is it possible to pull the wires out of the motor, clean them and then get them back in correctly? I assume not since you cannot take the motor out of the x wing.Also ,my red light comes on, does that mean the motor is in working order?

If the light is coming on, then the electrics are probably ok. Its more likely the motor has seized up. Try running some graphite (from a 2B pencil) around the spinning shaft of the motor, this will help to free it up. Then re connect the batteries and hold the button down for a few seconds, hopefully it should start to spin and hum. Psrhaps intermittently at first but keep pressing the button and after a few go's it should start running again. Its worked for me in the past on several different vehicles. Hope this helps.

Please forgive my ignorance, but what is a 2B pencil? I notice you are in the UK and I am in the USA so I am not sure what a 2B pencil is.

  sorry bud, a 2B pencil is a softer grade of drawing pencil although any grade of soft pencil will do. Just not the 'H' grades because they are too hard.



simply apply the graphite to the little shaft with the cog on the end, towards the base, closest to the motor. spin the cog a few times to work the graphite into the motor housing and hopefully after a few goes at holding down the button, the motor will free up and start whirring again Also try continually spinning the cog by hand for a while with the batteries in and pressing the button/crossing the connection.

Thanks again for the help. I actually found a 2B pencil in an art kit I have, unfortunately it did not help. Still no luck trying to get the motor going.

I have been pushing the button in while spinning the wheel, and The light is on so I know it is making the connection.

I read the links you sent, do you know how to hook a 9 volt battery up to jump start it.I can't find anything about how to do it?

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Get some twin core wire, hook the 9volt battery directly to the 'terminals' of the motor.

Yes where the wires come out/go in. No do not disconnect/cut the existing wires.

Can you tell me what twin core wire is? and where I could find it. Looking online, it looks like there is a positive and negative wire inside the plastic coating.Does it matter which wire( red or black ) is hooked up to which post on the Battery and the motor.

And as far as hooking it to the battery, do I just wrap it around the posts, and stick the other lines into the same slot as the wires on the motor and hold them there?

sorry for the questions, but I have no idea how to do this type of stuff.

no need to apploagise for the questions that what were here for to help each other out. As far as where to get the stuff you need if you have a radio shack type store in your area that would be a good place to get what you need you can also find 9V battry snap connectors to hook up thae battery, Twin core wire is wire that has an outer covering over multple wires phone plug cords are this type just remove the outer cover and you wil find multilple small wires under it, For hooking up red is positive and black is negative, I put a few links so you can see what the items look like. Anything else just ask I will see if I can get to the motor in my tie fighter which I need to fix anyway and do a vidio or a photo rundow of the test and repair procedure.
