Maybe someone needs to do a study on it, maybe I should use my Behavioral Science degree and Sociology background and write a paper?

Cigarettes are addicting, most drugs are addicting, even food/drinks are addicting....

Now it's....????..... Me collecting vintage figures MOCs?!?!?! Help me! I need to go to MOC-Anonymous? Maybe start a group up?

I feel your pain, If you make it a Star wars collecting - Anonymous you can sign me up. Sometimes I feel I spend way to much time on the internet involved with star wars stuff.

like for instance right now, I know I should go mow the lawn but why do that when I can read the Forums and search eBay for star wars stuff. Stormie Smiley

It would be bad but the grass is getting really long :cool laugh:

Just had an idea, Star wars Anonymous meetings at CVI. I would so go. lol!

LOL....

One of these days, I'm going to try and save up and take my girls and myself to a Celebration. I know they'd love it. Living in Oklahoma, flights for 3... hotel... cost of admission... cost of autographs, souvenirs, etc. Lots of $$$$ for a poor teacher.

Celebration is always a ton of money, but to me its so worth it. The hardest part is saving once you know its coming. To not buy collectables that you want so that you can put that money towards Celebration is so tough. But the payoff when you experience Celebration is so great that it is worth the struggle of saving.

Sorry just getting excited. celebrate

What would you expect, just approximately, the cost of an adult and two children to attend the event, have a few autographs, food money, etc?

$1,500-2,000? More?

Thanks!

Lol yes it is certainly an addiction. I just spent a sizeable amount of money completeing my loose set but I can't seem to keep myself from looking on ebay and the classifieds on here and RS for good deals on star wars items. Plus the time I have spent researching stuff....but its so much fun. lol. Oh and about your question on cost of a trip like that...I am not going to celebration nor have I been but I have help plan several family trips and I would probably estimate somewhere between 2000 and 2500. I am not sure how much the tickets and things like autographs would cost and it would also depend on where you eat and stay.

I think it really depends. I know for me I can't go to Florida without going to Disney. So Every Celebration I turn into a vacation. Me and the wife go for a week and go to the parks before Celebration. I think for flight and a week at the hotel (Days Inn right next to the convention center) was around $1100. Our tickets were I think $145 a piece. I dont rent a car because its just the two of us so the taxi ride from the airport and back. Mears is a great service, Its a shuttle cost is $30 per person round trip from the airport to your hotel near the convention center.

For all that around $1500 for two people.

Then you need your spending money at the show and for what ever else you may do.

I usually need at least a year to plan for everything and save. I like to bring as much spending money as possible. I have to say that at CV I come back home with money in my pockets. CIV was my first Celebration and sad to say I wind up hitting the Credit cards, Luckily not for much. :I am stupid:

It is a lot of FUN and I think it would still be fun on a budget. There is a ton of free things to do. celebrate

I think this whole hobby REQUIRES an addictive personality. Even people who casually collect are committed more than they think.

I think the difference lies in the impetus behind why you collect. Do you love toys? Are you nostalgic? That's really the interesting question.

I collect purely for nostalgia. I think it's why I can't get into other toy lines. They don't have the tie to my childhood like SW does.

For me Star Wars is the most nostalgic, and I think that is why I started collecting, then there are the other "stuff" I guess I just think they are fun to collect. I would lie if I said I wasn't feeling a bit proud of being able to track down a near mint Shadow with Chariot never removed from box(though box was wrecked). Or having that Medicine Sans Frontiers tent. I think tracking them down is the fun part. If it's easy to get I'm not usually interested in it.
