Hi,

Some of us were having a little discussion in chat about the use of signatures on this forum.

Though some are very creative and appealing, they can also be bulky sometimes and make the posts difficult to read. Sometimes it is like you have to find the posted info in a haystack of signatures.

The problem is that there is no option, to hide signatures in the threads. Once they are there, they stay there till the day a genuine Black Wampa appears on ebay.

One solution would be to delete images and videos from member's signatures.

How do you feel about that.

Sorry if it bothers you that I brought this up. It's been annoying me since I first found TIG. I assume I'm not the only one. I never expected it would prompt anyone to do anything about it...

I think Paul's comment was somewhat tongue in cheek Trevor.

TBH, they don't bother me.

I Quite like them, I see them as a way of adding your own little bit of personalty to your posts, I think all that is needed is a dividing line between posts and signatures.

You did say it bothered you to where you wont read threads and me and Marco decided to start the poll to see what others thought. Isnt that what we need to do, see what we can do to improve TIG? At least thats what it said in my copy of the "Official TIG Handbook for Ultra Cool and Awesome Developers That We Just Can't Live Without."

I voted No, just make an obvious visual separation between content and signature. Now some with the animation activated is kinda bad, like the one Dan had of that muftak. Took forever for a page to load with that thing. Videos from YouTube that you got to click on to see it isnt so bad since the animation isnt always running.

I didn't think it made a difference. But for 10 people to say it does it gives me pause.

I changed my sig. Im not attached to it (like an avatar) so if 10 more people enjoy the site becuase of it, then Im happy

John, that seems strange now not seeing Panchi in your sig! The sigs never really bothered me tbh, and when I first signed up I liked the fun element of it and I think I even had a couple of signature pics myself at one time.

Seeing a few of our members removing their sig pics now certainly makes the site look a bit cleaner. Bit like RS for example, when they did the changeover a few people asked about having pics but the decision was made to keep it clean.

I vote no, as I'm used to seeing them on TIG. But more or less as John said, if others are annoyed by them then it's no big deal. I think we get good avatar sizes here so that's a plus.

But it made me think about the appearance of the board here... does anyone remember back in early/mid 2010 that we had a lighter coloured template for TIG? And that it was changed to the current black colour around that time :?: Or am I losing the plot :scratch:

I always thought the template was black. Guess back then the Jack Daniels and Gin made it look black to me.

I just voted straight up no but that's just my opinion. One of the reasons i prefer TIG over RS is the freedom to ne more expressive. Bit if they really bother people to the point of turning them away from the threads then i guess there should be some regulations.

However, I can understand the animated gifs and youtube videos being distracting.

I mean Shawns one is a good example.....its too big I think (sorry shawn)....make it half and its perfect or??

Mine is a very small....like a banner on the bottom....so I think this is fine with most??

As its a form of self expression & the world is limiting enough, though a size limitation would I feel be a good idea & I also feel that a dividing line is a great idea even if its just text in your sig, just for clarity.

I voted "no" as well. While I can understand that some people don't like the size or style of signatures, it shouldn't really matter. That was one of the reasons I joined TIG in the first place. I haven't been a vintage collector all too long, relatively speaking, and I remember scouring online for as much info as I could find.

I distinctly remember when I first stumbled onto these forums, I thought, "that seems like a forum where they are having a good time, and actually enjoying talking about vintage Star Wars." A lot of that was because of the funny signature lines.

RS looks like a sterile mental hospital, and after a while, I honestly give up on reading threads because it just looks like a huge page of light blue. It makes me go cross eyed. But here, I could always see Isaac from the Love Boat giving me the ol' "Double Guns," or Red Hulk crushing a piggy bootleg.

I strongly think it contributes to the light-hearted, open-to-all, ask-any-question-you-want, feeling of this forum.

So I say vote "NO!" or the terrorists win!

HEY!!!! don't forget Yes with exception of Red Hulk animations at 5%. And the funny thing is I didn't vote for that one.

I too feel that the unique signitures give TIG it's "Welcoming" feeling. It drove me nuts that RS' signiture line was so limiting. But I'm one of those folks who like to add his personal touch to his space whereever he may be, Here it's Hulk pics and cartoony avatars. At work it's my superhero buttons and Oscar The Grouch belt buckle.

Paul, I included the two votes from your Hulk animations fans in the YES camp.

How much did you pay them?

So will a separation between sig & post be a must?, as the majority were for that, I think it would be a good idea as everyone gets to keep there personalised sig & the Yes's get a clear divide, so with luck everyone should be happy?

I have a line in mine. And some nice big Hulk pics. So all is well. So glad too. I was very nervous about the outcome :nailbiting:

no matter what...but with large videos and pictures you annoy every third member here...........honestly me included....but Im old...scroll finger gets tired from time to time
