| I thought i would start this thread to gauge just how many folk have been mis-sold a REPRO, Recard etc without it been marked / disclosed as such i.e you thought it was going to be original.
I would say i have been sent REPRO weapons sold as Originals at least 5 times over the last few years.
Just curious how many collectors looking for genuine weapons have had a REPRO slipped their way.
Cheers Jay

| I've got a bag of about 40 or so here, all marked as original. I must say though I've been refunded for all of them and even been sent out originals on a couple of occasions. I was wondering how many sellers send out repos and then if we don't get in touch there on to a winner. |

Wrote most of them off as bad experiences.. |

| So far one repro weapon. That I'm sure of. Pretty sure all my others are real.
One resealed MOC. Tri-Logo IG-88. |

| I've been burned probably 3 or 4 times. Luke Jedi, Luke Farmboy and a couple of others that I can't remember. My wife bought me a marked repro Emperor's cane from Brian's Toys just because the figure was in good shape. That's before she knew that repro's are bad! |

| I'd say in the past year I've gotten 2 or 3 repro weapons. I chalk it up to taking a risk on buying from someone I didn't know. Nothing huge - Han blasters, Jawa blaster.
Now on a separate note - My Mom was scammed by a douchebag dealer at a local bizaar. Gave her a "special deal" on 2 12 back recards costing her $50. I'm sure the guy saw her looking at the SW stuff and was just waiting for someone like her to come over so he could stick it to them. I take that one very personally and have been trying to find the guy who did it. Of course I've always told my family not to buy anything vintage for me because of the risk but my Mom thought they looked so nice that they had to be real... (I couldn't break it to her that they were fake). So that's one that I'm very pissed about. Recards, restoration kits, whatever the hell you want to call them are just straight up shit for the hobby. I know the mantra around RS has always been "do your research, etc" but mine is just one example how someone can be ripped off. |

| Two weeks ago I purchased a Leia off ebay, description stated "Vintage action figure, removable cape + blaster" No mention of anything repro but after receiving it last week both the cape and blaster are repros!!
I should have asked more questions though because after reading the description again there is nothing actually stating that cape or blaster are genuine vintage.....but that's how the scammers get ya!
Haven't contacted the buyer yet for an explaination......any thoughts??

who was the seller? I'd be asking them why they chose to not disclose the reproductions |

| Serket, my golden rule is that if the seller doesn't state specifically that the weapon is original, it's a repro. |

| I've got burned on repro weapons on Ebay when I first got started. I love those descriptions that say "they could be real, but I'm not sure".
As for MOC's, luckily I havent got hit on that one. Unless you count that Vader, which I already figured it was too good by the photos for it to be a sealed one, but took the chance anyway. |

| From ebay sources I have bought alot of items that where reproduced not knowing until I got the item. Moc, weapons, accerossies ect. Sadley many of the seller just want to make some easy money. But at some point it's okay now because it easy for me to spot a reproduced item.
The stuff I have now are most from collections bought here in Denmark or items bought on rebelscum or here. The have been a few deals where i got reproduced stuff from forum deals but not a huge number. So it's most pleasing.
In my book ebay are filled with scammers. |

| Yes I bought quite a few figures from dollar_bill and he claimed that they were original and half of the weapons and capes were repro and I sent them back he mailed out their "original" counter parts in the mail yesterday?? So who knows what I'm going to get?? The very first figure I bought was a VC Jawa and I didnt realize till three years later that is was a cheap repro. That has been the driving force of my quest for "vintage" everything!!

| The last 4 sellers I have bought vintage star wars from I have had problems with. 3 of them sent me some repro weapons that was sold as original weapons. But I got my money back. The 4th seller forgoth to send me all the items I bought from him, there was more than 20 weapons missing in the packet. If I had not found the Imperial Gunnery Weapon Guide some months ago, then the 3 sellers could have cheated me. Many others have cheated me before I found this Weapon Guide, I have allredy found nearly 50 Repro Weapons in my collection and I have not been though them all yet. |

| I find that you can't even get a straight answer when asking sellers on ebay about the authenticity of the vintage star wars weapons they are selling.
When you ask "are these weapons 100% genuine vintage?"
You get "as far as I know they are" or "I think they are" or "they look like they're are" and these are all answers that the seller can hide behind if the weapons do turn out to be repros.
Capetown you said it buddy!! The golden rule is unless the seller states "100% genuine vintage" it's probably repro rubbish! |
